"She dwelt among the untrodden ways" by William Wordsworth. Text analysis. The reader can get some information(or he can have some expecation) from the title. There are 2 important words;"Dwelt" and "Untrodden". These 2 are ancient expressions that aren't used commonly in the right present. The first one stands for the verb "to live", while the second one is an adjective related to something that is usually not frequented. The title invites curiosity in the identity of the "She" that could be the protagonist of the poem. Moreover the reader may wonder where and why "she" lived in that place. Considering the layout, the reader can understand that this is a poetic text, organised into 3 Quartines and the lines have different lenght. It looks a very well organised poem in wich all the part have a different function: In the first stanza, the poet introduces the protagonist. She is Lucy, a girl that lives in a place where nobody colud love her, because there were just few people. In the second stanza, Lucy's beuty is described pointing out that not everybody recognise it.In the last stanza the poet express his feeling. He admits his love, that can't be paid, because the protagonist died. In the text the reader can find some figure of speech. In the second stanza, the poet comparise(using a metaphor) the beuty of Lucy to a "violet in a mosyy stone" because as it is rare to find a violet in a mossy stone as it is rare to find her beury in the place she live. That takes the reader to think about how good things can be found everywhere. Moreover the poet used a simile to write that the girl is fair as a star. In the end, Enjambents are frequent in this text. this gives fluxidity |
