Most of all Changez believed in the USA’s meritocracy involving Americans as much as non-Americans, as long as they contributed to the society. Underwood Samson appeared to him as an opportunity to better improve his education and consequently his status.

He appreciated America’s mindset about valuing someone based on his competences and what is contribute might be, rather than his social status in his home country. It made him feel as though he could climb the social ladder all the way to regain his past status.

Quoting the novel “Princetown made everything possible for me”: Changez was totally aware of the huge and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities having attended Princetown presented him to. He is aware that he owed a lot to his education in America.
