CHARACTERIZATION OF ZENOBIA

Zenobia is Ethan’s wife, her character is not rounded as her husband’s one.

The novelist describes her as a sick woman, she pretends to be sick just to get more attention from Ethan. The negative aspects become visible already in the beginning of the novel and it makes her look like the villan of the novel. Despite what Zeena actually does or says, the way she is described makes certain that the reader sees her in a negative light

Zeena is the main embodiment of manipulation, and she uses her health. While she actually is the victim of her husband’s adultery. Zeena uses manipulation because she feels powerless to express herself in other ways. She switched in a healthy woman after Ethan’s and Mattie’s accident, and she starts to take her of them and she stops to be sick and shows them a bit of compassion.

This suggests that she can only be healthy when she is doing what she loves to do, which is caring for the sick.

She seems to be the only character that changed from the beginning of the novel.
