Peace - Bethel Music feat. We The KingdomJust considering the title, I expect this song to be about the world’s peace. Considering the layout, I can see that this song is organized into 8 stanzas and there is no regular pattern because the number of the lines isn’t the same. In the first three lines there is a speaking voice and it speaks in the first person. In the first line he says that his mind is like a battlefield. This might mean that there is a conflict in his mind. In the second line he says that fear has the best on himand he can’t control it. In the third line he says that he feels lost and that he lost hope. In the first tercet the mood expressed by the speaking voice is sad because he lost some things. Here we can find similarity in words like “battlefield”, “fear”, “lost” and they make me think of his negative feelings. In the second line the verb “is overcome” is written in the passive form and the speaking voice surely chose this form for a specific reason. The reason of its decision might be his will to express that he is unable to reacr, that he is passive. Here the majority of the nouns are uncountable nouns like “heart”, “hope”, “fear” and they refear to his feelings. In the first and in the third line we can find a simile that has the function to express his feelings even better in the first line and to express that he’s harmless, hopeless in the third one. In the first line of the second verse he says that enemies are everywhere and these enemies might be even his own feelings. In the second line he says that he’s tempted to run and hide. From what he wants to escape might be his feelings because he can’t control them and he doesn’t want to face them because he’s scared. In the third line he says that even though he feels like running away and scared, the gentle whispers of the person he is referring to, reach out to him. In this line we can understand that even if he is feeling sad and can’t find a solution, there is someone that can help him to get through these dark times. In this tercet words like “enemies”, “run” and “hide” express the feeling of fear and of running away from it, But words like “gentle”, “reaches” can suggest us that even when we’re having troubles someone can help us. In the chorus, the speaking voice tells that peace holds him when he’s broken like it can hold us.It can give us comfort when the whole world is breaking down. The speaking voice also tells that he falls on his knees and breath in that person’s peace. He writes the word “Yours” and by it he can also refer to God, that helps us when we’re going through bad times. Even in the third verse he says that when the night sets in and the arrows whistle, he can see all the angels of that “Yours” aroud him. In this tercet he is once again reiterating the concept of finding someone who can help us when we’re feeling down or we’re about to give up. In the forth verse he says that he’s under the shelter of “Your mighty” wings and that he finds his hopes where the promises of “Your mighty” are. With this he maybe wants to tell us that we all are under the shelter of someone that can comfort us and make us find our hope once again. In the bridge he talks and unveils who is that someone that helps him, that comforts him: God. He says that he remembers him as the one who’s never far away from him and that he won’t be afraid of him. In the forth line he says that God always keeps him safe in his arms. The last chorus is almost same as the first one. Here the speaking voice tells that God gives him peace, that holds him when he’s about to give up. This sweet peace gives us also comfort when everything is crashing down. He then falls onto his knees like his praying and dedicates himself to God, knowing that he’ll always be there form him when he needs him. I think this song can be considered as a one promoting peace because, first of all, the title itself is “Peace” and because the speaking voice through all the song talks about peace and also the inner peace when we’re going through rough times.
