19/02/2021WRITE AN ARGUMENTATIVE TEXT ON THE REIGN OF ELSABETH I AND ITS CONSEQUENCES ON THE CULTUAL, POLITICAL AND SOCIAL LEVEL.Elizabeth I, reigned from 1558 to 1603. She was the daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. She adopted a policy of compromise in the religious field and placed the Anglican church at the centre between the Reformed and the Catholic Church. She issued a second Supremacy Act, in 1559, in which she affirmed the full independence of the Church of England. Elizabeth guaranteed internal peace for England and increased wealth and commercial power. Elizabeth supported the new explorations thanks to the creation of a powerful fleet. She encourages the growth of the Royal Navy and the emergence of companies that exploit foreign trade. In addition, she also had to face friction with other states, especially Spain, even though her only serious internal threat was her Catholic cousin, Mary Stuart, the Queen of Scots. In 1587 Elisabetta had to sentence Mary to death and from here on things with Spain got worse and worse. Friction led to open warfare in 1588 when Philip I of Spain attempted to invade England. The Spanish "Invincible Armanda", a huge fleet, was defeated in the English Channel and the victory of England saved its independence and increased its prestige in Europe. |
