Textual analysis: procedures


1) To consider the title to find out possible expectations and congectures.
2) To look at the layout, which gives us some clues and hints about the kind of text.
3) To read the poem at least twice (denotative analysis)
4) Structure analysis (function of each parte of the text)
5) Connotative analysis, who takes in consideration different levels that all together contribute to the
meaning
•phonological level: analyze all the aspects connected to sound devices (ex. repetitions, refrain,
consonants, assonances.. )
•semantic level: analyze words' choices (ex. semantic fields, verb tenses)
•sintax:the way words are organized (ex. anaphora, cataphor, deviation from the norm)
•figures of speech
