Pascut Zuly's Translation - Beowulf
[author: Zuly Pascut - postdate: 2006-03-02]
The epic poem Beowulf expresses the most important values of Anglo-Saxon society. It is no accident the character resembles a God more than a human being. If you analyse the characterization of the hero with care, you will realize that the narrator doesn’t provide any information about his physical appearance but the character comes to surface through references that let the reader know his treputation. Beowulf shows the behaviour of a high mind. He is more decorous and brave than other people in his tribe. Suffice it to say the narrator provides the reader with informations about Beowulf's family, a very important one in the social structure of that period. Therefore the reader considers the character similar to God. In the fourth line the narrator underlines his great powers in using the adjective “powerful”. Together with the previous stylistic choices the narrator also describes the behaviour of a hero that is the person who knows to be well organize and, in the end, but not for this less important,he also succeeds in finding the most suitable boat to face a long voyage. Also his moral qualities are listed by the narrator : the hero defends all people who need it.
