Peace is a relevant issue of study, discussion and reflection to be protected and promoted in the classroom environment as well as educational practice.
A meaningful example is the journalist's Marco Girardo's conference held on 17 February 2006 and addressed to school fifth form students. He provided recorded testimonials of people that experienced the horror of what in Italy is generally referred to as "foibe", sort of underground caves where lots of people died during the conflict between Italian and Slavian people.
He also wrote a book the title of which is "Sopravvissuti e dimenticati" that tells about the tragedy.
