GCester - Give Peace A Chance by John Lennon. A Song About Peace
[author: Giulia Cester - postdate: 2006-12-23]
Listen to Give Peace A Chance by John Lennon

Read the text of the song

This is a famous John Lennon’s song and just considering the title the reader may expect the song to be about peace and maybe about a chance everyone should give peace. Such expectations are crated by “peace” and ”give a chance". As a matter of fact the title of the song is “Give Peace A Chance”.
Maybe not everyone believes in the possibility to get peace on Earth and the song suggests to give a possibility to peace because if you believe in something you can get it easier than if you are not convinced about it. The song is arranged into 4 parts and there is a chorus.
There is a parallelism between the ends of the lines, because the chorus repeats the refrain at the end of all parts 4 times. A choir sings the song and there is a list of words in every verse.
In the first and in the second the first line is the same.
This is a pop song; pop is short for pop music. Pop music is a genre of popular music distinguished from classical or art music and from folk music. The expression "pop music" may also be used to refer to particular subgenres (within the pop music genre) that are in some cases referred to as soft rock and pop/rock.
The message of the song is that people shouldn’t only say words, but they should do something to reach peace.
