Up to  John Milton and Paradise LostUp to task document list

Right from the title the personality of Satan comes to life: he has an authoritarian personality; he prefers Hell to Heaven, beacuse he is a sovereign in Hell, and he was a serve in Heaven, even if Heaven is a more beautiful place. The words are Hell and Heaven recall the religious code and they are antithetics as a matter of fact Heaven recall good things like peace and Hell recall bad things, like sins.

In the first lines the Arch Angel, asks himself if he is in the Region that e had to change for the celestial light, the Paradise, because God disposed that wanted Satan far from him.

In this place he can dispose what he wants because he reigns above his equals. Bids farewell to happy fields and greets the new infernal place.

He adds that even if he is in Hell his ideas and his mind aren't changed.

In the first two lines the alliteration of the sound “th” stop the attenction of the reader on the description of the place. The invertion of the second line puts the attenction of the reader on the word “ lost”.

With the connotation of Hell we understand that Lucifer considers Hell a good place because he can reign but he considers God more powerful and he doesn't name him because it's a sin.

The frequent repetition of “this” and “ that” underlines the distance of Satan and Hell from Paradise.
