The wife of Bath is introduced with reference to her social status, she belongs to the middle class, she is a business woman. The first piece of information is about her work, she is a clothmaker and she is really good. In addition she does not permit to anybody to overcome her because she would like to be the best.

For example when she is in church there isn't a woman who dar precede her at the almsgiving because if there does, she becomes furious.

She is a beautiful woman"Bold was her face, and handsome; florid too.".

She seems to be very superficial, she is worry for her physical appearance, therefore she dresses herself carefully , "Her headkerchiefs of the finest weave, ten pounds and more they weighed, I do believe, Those that she wore on Sundays on her head. Her stockings are scarlet red and they are very tingly; her shoes are pliable and new.", and she was married five times and she had other loves. She was a teacher of love. 

She had travelled a lot: she had gone to Boulogne, Rome, St James, Cologne and Jerusalem., she was an important business woman but she is an attractive woamn, in fact she was always accompanied during her travels.
