From CHAPTER XIII from Robinson Crusoe, elements of the structure of the novel
-FIRST PERSON NARRATOR
The narrator is the protagonist so he is a witness . In this way the reader has a only point of view and so he can believe or not .
-STORYLINE:
Robinson Crusoe is arrived in the island and after that he meet a men. This chapter focuses reader's attention on the meeting between Robinson and the men, named by Robinson Friday.
Moreover it tells about the relation between the two men : master and servant and the way in which Robinson tried to civilize men Friday.
CHARACTERS:
-The main characters are Robinson and men Friday. They are portrayed in a peculiar way in order to give the reader a sense of reality.
As a matter of fact there are a lot of real details and description
Friday is described like :" comely, handsome fellow, perfectly well made, with straight, strong limbs, not too large, tall, hair long and black, his nose small, a very good mouth, thin lips, fine
teeth well set.
There are a lot of indications that reveal the relation between the two protagonists . Robinson gives the men the name Friday and try to explain him his culture and moreover Robinson makes Friday his servant:" I likewise taught him to say Master".
So Defoe portrayed cultural backgrounds of the characters , trough characters description.
SETTING
