the poem is a folk ballad .reading from the title the reader understands that the main character is a ghost or something supernatural that can't rest in his grave because someone disturbs it.

the ballad consists into a narrative form. The first and the last one have got five line each.

The other stanza are quatrain. We immediatly understand that the ballad talks about a young man who lost his true love. The man promise to himself that he wouls sit on the grave of his love for a year and one day. After this period of time the true love apppares and ask him why he disturbs her. He answers that he want a kiss from her lips. In the first there are an anaphora.

It stress the idea of pain of the young man and slow down the rhytm. there are some inversion in the first lines, like" cold blows the wind to my true love", probably the poet wants to reinforce the meaning of those lines. there are a lot anaphora inside the ballad and some enumerations. these things permit to simplify the memorization of the ballad like all the figures of sound inside the ballad.

the fist stanzas describe the setting og the ballad and the weather,it rains and wind blows.

in all stanzas the second and the fourth verse are in rhyme. There is an alliteration in the 7th line:" as any young man may" that speed up the reading.

In the 3th stanza the reader understands that a lot of time is gone by ( one year and one day).From here to the end the ballad is a long dialogue between the man and his love in which the man describe his request to the woman and his fellings.The flower probably is a periphrasis of their love that is wither .those line represents the impossible request of the man that is becoming crazy for love. As a metter of fact how can a stone bleed or how can you found water in the desert? probably his love asks him something impossible for exlpaing him that also that he has requests is impossible.

At the end of ballad the woman says him that they will meet when :When the oaken leaves that fall from trees Are green and spring up again ,are green and spring up again." it means that they will meat when she will resurrect.

 This fact means the religion is more important and it influence the ballad.
