First person narrator: the speaking voice is the protagonist, Robinson Crusoe. He tells his experience using the simple past.

Storyline: the chapter deals with the meeting between Robinson and Man Friday and Friday's reaction. It also tells the behaviour of Robinson towards Friday and how they burn the human rests of the battle between the cannibals.

Characters: the description of the character is full of adjectives and allusions to their culture

  • Physical description: Friday is particulary connoted in his physical appearance

  • Proper name: Robinson after the meeting give the man a proper name.Proper name is one of the characteristics which identity the individual so Robinson recognizes in the other the human being although he is far from his culture.

  • Interactions between characters:the interactions between the two characters is very important for the writer as a matter of fact Robinson at once teach Friday talk. This is the recognition in other the human being which results also in the use of proper name.

  • Background of the characters: Defoe's connotations of Friday include also his background. It comes out to this words refers to the finding out of the human rests: "As we went by the place where he had buried the two men, he pointed exactly to the place, and showed me the marks that he had made to find them again, making signs to me that we should dig them up again and eat them...".
