I'm going to answer the question about the sonnet form:
The English Renaissance was the period when the Tudors reigned and the civil wars finished (1485). It was a period during which arts, music and literature flourished andyou could see the development of theatre addressed to all social classes.
The English scholars went to Italy to learn about Humanism and the culture of Italian poets. Thomas Wyatt introduced the Petrarchan sonnet into England translating sonnets in English; he gradually changed the Italian sonnet, but Shakespeare did the true changes.
There were two types of sonnet: the Italian or Petrarchan sonnet was organized into an octave, that is eight rhyming lines and a sestet that is six rhyming lines-The English or Shakespearean sonnet was organized into three quatrains and a rhymed couplet, that provided an epigrammatic ending to the poem.
The theme of the Italian sonnet and the first English sonnet was courtly love poetry: the passion of the poet for an unattainable Lady.
Shakespeare wrote about the passion for a “dark Lady”, a dirty, ugly and brown Lady.
