In the poem the speaking voice is complaining about the relationship between her and her daughter. The poet informs us that the daughter has left home.
Once they were friends, but when the daughter got older, she grew away from the mother or the father. The speaking voice is wondering what he or she has done to make her or his daughter hate him or her.
In the end of the poem he or wonders whether their relationship will one day be as it used to.
