Textuality » 3A Interacting
PATTERN:
The poem is made by 4 stanzas. In the first stanza there are eight lines, in the second nine, in the third ten and in the fourth eleven.
All over the poem there is the same pattern: each stanza starts and finishes with an answer.
CONSIDERING THE TITLE:
The possessive adjective "my" makes me think about a close relationship between two people and the noun "daughter" makes me understand who are they: a mother or a father and her/his daughter.
In my opinion the speaking voice is a mother because the choice of the words is very feminine.
1st STANZA
In this stanza the mother complains about the present relationship between her daughter and she. She doesn't accept the behaviour of her daughter:
• she hates her
• she doesn't trust her
• she doesn't believe in their friendship.
2nd STANZA
This stanza tells the readers about the relationship that once existed between the mother and the daughter: the mother always tried to help her daughter, but now she has left home and her mother all alone.
The mother is worried she might not to see her daughter again.
3rd STANZA
In this stanza the speaking voice is telling her doubts and giving some interpretations about her daughter's behaviour. She is very worried because she isn't able to change her daughter's mind.
The mother is asking herself how she could tell her daughter that she loves her and how she could get her believe in her words.
4th STANZA
In this stanza the speaking voice tells us that the relationship between her daughter and she gas died in a couple of weeks, she also wonders whether there are any chances to help their relationship survive and if her daughter would accept her apologies.
