Scaffolding

First of all I can recognise the word fold which means the act of folding; for example: "he gave the napkins a double fold".

 A folded part (as a fold of skin or muscle). A group of people who adhere to a common faith and habitually attend a given church. So if this word is fundamental the novel (or the poem) might be about animals or a group of people.

I find the second and the fourth definitions better than the others. I mean, very frequently a poem or a novel talk about humans or animals.

Later, looking at the dictionary I found that scaffolding is an English word which means a temporary arrangement erected around a building for convenience of workers or more interesting, a platform from which criminals are executed (hanged or beheaded).

This changes my first hypothesis and I think that the second definition might be very important and also very representative for the entire novel or poem. The novel might consist of tales of people involved in some bad situations, especially in ancient times. But the novelist might explain his or her ideas about scaffoldings. The novel might also consist of a single tale, maybe set in the Middle Ages.

Digging

Looking at the title, digging, in my opinion it might came from the verb to dig. I looked at the on-line dictionary and I found the followiing definitions:

Verbs:

Get the meaning of something;

poke or thrust abruptly

Turn up, loosen, or remove earth

Remove the inner part or the core

Nouns:

The act of touching someone suddenly with your finger or elbow;

The act of digging

A small gouge (as in the cover of a book)

The site of an archeological exploration

An aggressive remark directed at a person like a missile and intended to have a telling effect

There are a lot of definitions and many hypotheses can be done but the most important definitions are the first and the third in the possible noun definitions.

The novel might be about some problem or something difficult to accept for some people. The definition like a small gouge has also an abstract and symbolic meaning. We can also find a gouge in the soul. In this case the novel might be about some personal or sentimental problems.

Se questo è un uomo

This seems a title of a poem that speaks about the human condition in a very difficult situation like a war. This poem might also speak about very poor people who are ignored by others. The poem might set during some war during the last century or in some poor state where living is very difficult. The poem might be the story of a man who has lived very difficult and complicated situations including humiliations of his dignity or something like that. It seems clear that this title implies a very negative meaning.
