The Contemplation

Lost in my thoughts, oblivious of the world,

my mind begins to wander...

Here I am, stuck in that in-between,

no longer a child, yet not fully grown.

pretending, an imitation, the hypothetical adult.

pondering the future and what will be,

curious as to where life's journey leads me.

Fate, circumstance, destiny ?

In this moment, I am unquestionably me.

At this time, I am absolutely free.

ANALYSIS OF THE TITLE

Taking the title in consideration I expect the poem might be about a reflection. The verb "to contemplate" means: to chew over, to think over, to meditate, to ponder, to excogitate, to observe deep in thought, to think intently and at length. Beside this, the verb underlines a static position.

The noun "contemplation" means: a long and thoughtful observation, a calm lengthy intent consideration, reflection, reflexion, rumination, musing, thoughtfulness, retrospect, self-examination, meditation.

DENOTATIVE ANALYSIS

The speaking voice seems to me a teenager because he/she uses some sentences that made me think this, for example: "stuck in that in-between, no longer a child, yet not fully grown" or "hypothetical adult".

The speaking voice is lost in his thoughts.

The 1st stanza tells about an adolescent who speaks about his/her psychological situation. He/she feels lost and his/her mind moves without a definitive direction.

In the 2nd stanza the poet feels stuck in a middle position. He/she doesn't feel no longer a child but not yet an adult.

The 3rd stanza tells that the speaking voice is curious about his/her future: he/she would like to know what his/her future will be like and he/she wonders whether will be determined by fate, situations or destiny.

In the last stanza the poet speaks abut his/her freedom and he/she tells the reader that he/she is unquestionably as he/she is.

PATTERN

The poem is made by 4 stanzas. In the 1st and in the last there are two lines and in the 2nd and in the 3rd there are 3 lines.

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

In the 1st stanza the speaking voice introduces his/her feelings.

The 2nd stanza explains us how the poet feels. There's also a linguistic deviation: "Here I am,...". In every-day language we say "I am here". The poet uses this deviation to put "I" in the middle. So this makes me understand that the poem is a Lyrical Poem, that speaks about something close.

The function of the 3rd stanza is to pose a question of the speaking voice.

The 4th stanza represents the real situation of the poet.
