The dove makes me think of peace because, in the bible the dove is the symbol for peace between God and Noah.
The poet refers to Picasso's picture about a dove and he immediately thinks of dreams that are fragile as pottery vase with a dove on it. There is a contrast between the white colour of the dove and the brown colour of the vase.
