Title analysis

Considering the title the reader understands the poem might be about drams. A dream might be a hope, a desire, but it can also be a thing which has nothing to do with the reality: an imaginary situation.

 

Structural analysis

The poem is arranged in one stanza made up by eight lines. The stanza can be divided in to two parts, every part starts with the sentence "Hold fast to dreams".

The function of the first part is to explain the reader the importance of the dream, because when a dream die the life become like a bird who can not fly.

The function of the second part of the poem is to tell the reader that without dreams life is like a barren field frozen with snow: shallow.

 

Denotative analysis

The poem deal whit dreams and the life without dreams. The speaking voice tells that life without dreams and hopes is like a bird that cannot fly and like a barren field frozen with snow. It isn't worth to live it.

 

Connotative analysis

The poet uses frequent alliteration of "s" and "f". The use of this sounds gives a slow rhythm to the novel. There is also the employment of opened vowel  sound. In addiction there is the use of the assonance of the sound "ai" in the words "die", "life", "fly", "life".

There is the repetition of the sentence "Hold fast to dreams" that divides the poem into two parts.

The word dreams is used four times and it gives a rhythm to the novel.
