Twilight is a film launched in 2008. It is inspired by the book of the same name.

His film tells the story of Edward (Robert Pattinson), a vampire who lives on the blood of animals, and the shy Bella (Kristen Stewart). They fall in love, but Edward fears he may not be able to control his impulse to devour her. Meanwhile, Jacob (Jacob may become a serious contender for her heart) expresses his interest in Bella at the end of the film (the ending clearly indicates a sequel).

The intelligent reader, can understand the writer's judgment (Lawrence Toppman) in many parts of this review.

"I think" this is the begin of a period in which Lawrence Toppman gives personal judgment. He says tahta the director and the writer, have different aim.

This is a good criticism: he in facts uses the words "more interesting" to characterize the director's aim. "more interesting" conveys a positive idea; director's aim is more interesting than writer's aim.

Anyway, there are also other criticism not as good as the one I've just analyzed. The writer from The Charlotte Observer lists some films that have a similar theme: "Thirteen", "Lord of Dogtown" and "The nativity Story".

In all these films there's a teen whose quiet existence is changed by a forbidden love bearing a taboo. This feature can make Twilight an obvious film without new, interesting characteristics that could attract viewers.

Another point in which Lawrence Toppman underlines that some aspects are obvious, is when he says "The filmmakers have wrapped this story in conventional trappings". The use of "conventional", underlines that some parts of this film can be considered as common, banal and obvious.

On the on hand a bad criticism for some features; on the other a good criticism for Kristen Stewart. At the end of this review, Toppman says that the actress suits perfectly her role: she is "the right one" for Twilight. Also the criticism for Pattinson is a good criticism: "his mannerism [..] acquire an intensity that's hard to resist by the end".
