Considering the title

The title of the poem is "The Dove". It makes me think about something free. The dove is the animal that went out from the Noah's ark after the Flood: how I see it, something that is compared to a dove may be a nice thing that comes after a terrible one. So the poem might be about a thing that takes happiness with it.

Denotative Analysis

The poem tells about old Picasso that is near the dove and dreams. These ones are fragile as a pottery with a white dove on clay. This is dark brown like the earth from old battleground.

Structural Analysis

In my opinion the poem is arranged in two parts: the first (from the first to the fifth line) is used to introduces the reader into the situation and to underline the simile between the fragile dreams and the pottery (in which there is a white dove on clay).

The second part, composed by the last four lines, underlines the simile between clay and the earth from old battleground.
