Just from the title, the reads understands that Obama want to speak his dream to have a more united America. First of all Obama starts with a quotation to the ancient Constitution. He wants to put the focus on the aim he will try to achieve and it also reminds of past commons origins and ideals of all The sense of belonging to the nation is reinforced.Obama compares slavery to racism, because they are based on the same discriminating idea; if racial ideology persists, USA will never be completely unit. Obama starts with criticizing all the racial ideas and the actions of the past and all the activities against liberty.People didn't practice coherently those principles due to racism, due to conviction that African men weren't respectable human beings. Also today America is characterized by discrimination but in Obama’s opinion those differences help America to become a better nation. He believes that having the same aim can assure a total unity but only if citizens act in line with the ideals of the States, only if hopes turn into reality: Obama repeats the concept lots times in different ways: he doesn’t want to distinguish poor and rich, young and old, but always speaking with the pronouns WE, US.It gives the idea of unity and reinforces the idea that Obama wants to proceed together. After that Obama went deeply: he named the Constitution . This is one of the most important speech's point. Semantic field "equal citizenship, liberty, justice and union" explain the ideals on which is based a more perfect union. In spite of all that the parchment isn't enough to resolve question , but we must "to narrow gap " in order to reach union. On the consequence he explained us the reason why he chose to run for the presidency : he wants to solve challenges with men's union appealed on common hopes and moving in the same direction. So Obama's aim should be American's aim. Then he explains to the audience his personal view: he believes in the possibility of facing challenges, both because of USA's prosperity and because of his life;Obama provides a positive image of America and incites other people to be like him. Moreover he decides to speak about his personal experience: as a consequence his life seems to identify with common ideals, hopes, feelings, facts. He deals with questions emerged during his campaign, in particular about Wright's speeches criticizing the States and racism by the white.Obama disagrees with him; however he also recognizes Wright's merits and good inclinations: he states that everybody can mistake and he has not to be persecuted at all for some errors. The opinion is a lesson for all people who keep some prejudice and spoil a nation unity.Everywhere there are contradictions, that reflect differences in beliefs and opinions, for example in the Community of the Trinity in which Obama grew; also America carries contradictions, but the challenge is to face and to solve them: as a matter of fact problems USA have got today don't depend on racial aspect but concern all citizens. The contrast between the old and actually church is underlined twice with two semantic fields "Kindness, intelligence, love " and " cruelty, fierce, ignorance, bitterness" "And this explain my relationship with Reverend Wright " Is the conclusion of the concept he wants to gave us. He hasn't any relation with the priest and the priest isn't the same person as a matter of fact he uses verbs tenses that expressed a concluded action " he has been like my family, strengthened my family, officiated my wedding and baptized my children, served, treat". In spite of all that the President can't disown him because he represent a part of him. As a matter of fact Obama associated Wright to his grandmother "helped sacrificed, loves" and positive verbs that creates a positive background connoting positively Wright.
