The beginning of the Renaissance is associated with the accession of the House of Tudor to the throne, in 1485. Politically it sets the end of civil wars.
The word Renaissance means "new born". Who was born again? The classics were rediscovered in all England, so it's like they came to life another time.
However, the Renaissance started in Italy before than in England because England is an island, far from the rest of Europe and new changements arrived later.
In this period women were considered the object of men's desire, but they were unattainable and they helped men to improve themselves. Men of the Renaissance were considered near nature, and their most important aspect was their body.
Sonnets are dedicated to an idealized lover while in ballads the most common topics are tragic love stories, the supernatural and battles between Scotland and England. As a matter of fact the sonnet was a courteous form of poetry, it was written at Court, so it belonged to the social class of the aristocrats; the ballad, was an oral form of poetry, it was handed down from generation to generation and it belonged to popular class. Ballads and sonnets differed also in the language, because the first one was oral, and its main feature is the repetition. It was addressed to all the people and for this reason the language was very simple. The second one, was written by Sonneteers, aristocratic men with a culture and importance, so the language was more articulated.
