Why is Eveline representative to Dubliners?

I think that the protagonist of the short story is representative because of her characteristics:

  • Paralysis: she wants to leave Ireland, but she quite literally cannot move, speak, or even express emotion on her face. She does not know what she should do and so she does nothing: everything is always the same
  • Eveline believes in the Catholic Church, but at the same time Eveline's father says "Damned Italians! coming over here!". Maybe there is a possible connection with the seat of the church's power in Rome
  • Eveline decides to stay in Dublin, even if she can go away, she stays there with her family: Dublin is familiar, and she is a fearful young woman
  • Eveline is a young woman of the working class
  • She is an adolescence (Joyce writes stories about teenagers and adult people)
