1.I agree because the sequence is painful and faces pass on fear and in the same time calm of death. In addition are not seen the execution and it renders the scene more dramatic. Besides I think the sequence is an anticipation of the sad end of love between Anna and the King. 2.I agree because the film wants to show the Eastern culture and compares it to Western culture therefore are illustrated analogies for example love, death, fear, guilt-feelings and to believe in a god and differences about tradition for example to have many wives. ANSWER: 1.Who is the speaking voice? The speaking voice is Mongkunt ’s son. 2.Why did the director choose that narrative technique and that speaking voice? The director chose that speaking voice because to narrate the relation ship between Anna and the King and different traditions of Eastern and Western from a external view. 3.What is the tragedy the result of? Why does it happen? The tragedy is the result of the relation ship between Tuptim and Balat. She is a concubine of the King and she not untroubled because she loves Balat and they can not see themselves. Balat becomes a monk and she decides to becomes a monk too, because she thinks he does not recognizes she. Tuptim goes in Balat ’s room and they are discovered. The idea is of Tuptim and Balat is innocence. 4.Why does the King let the two lovers die? The King lets the two lovers die because Anna said that she would go to the King to say him to vacate the prisoners and he does not make that because he should not be governed to a woman. 5.Which are the three most important topics? Why? The three most important topics are love because it occupies a large part of the film. There are the relation ship between Anna and the King that is tormented to cultural differences and the relation ship between Tuptim and Balat that have a tragic end where the lovers die. The second topic is Siamese traditions that are an impede for the relation ship between Anna and the King and in the same time a opportunity for a comparison between the two different cultures. In the end courage is another topic because Anna, Tuptim and the King want to change roles, but they can not disobey traditions. As a matter of fact Tuptim is killed. 6.What is the connection among all topics? Anna fall in love with the King, she belongs to a different culture and they traditions are more different, sure Siamese traditions is a strong difficulty for their union, as a matter of fact they can not stay together. But the courage of Anna to change roles is evident in the sequences, for example she can stand up in front of him. 7.What is the central message? I think there are different messages in the film, but the central is that roles can be broken within certain limits. 8.Do you agree with the consideration of the paragraph “MESSAGES”? I agree because when roles are broken you are afraid and it supposes courage. As a matter of fact when you go against traditions should be tragic consequences.
