In the 14th line we can understand that Beowulf is very charismatic, because he einlists fourteen men in short time, he is the captain and he is clever navigator. Beowulf is carismatic, courageos, prudent, he is a leader.
Beowulf's men are loyal to Beowulf. Those men are ready to die for him.
"Captain" is in a key position, it performs and underlines the capacity of Beowulf.
