Witchcraft by a Picture

Reading the title, I can make some hypothesizes about the text: the term "witchcraft" is composed by "witch" (strega) and "craft" (abilità), so it means "sortilegio"...I think that this poem will be about a love story, but it will be not a classical love story, because one of the two lovers is witched!

An interesting question is how can a men be witched by a picture...

We find the answer of our question in the text: the poet sees himself in the eyes of his love and he understands that his imagine isn't like he thought...he doesn't like the idea that his Lady has about him...so, he decides to go away and to leave his love...because he is too much proud to accept an imagine that doesn't respect what he thinks about himself...he can't try to understand why does his Lady think that things, dash is more easy, putting on his Lady, his love, all fault!!

Of course, he loves her, as we can understand with the semantic field of love like "burning", "kill"...a semantic field that remembers love, but war too.

Another important cause of poet's escape is represented by the word "Pitty": the poet fells that he doesn't live up to his lady...and this reinforce his idea and he decides to go away from his love...and those eyes that reflect his image like, or better than, a mirror...
