Up to  Metaphysical Poetry and J. DonneUp to task document list

Reading the title the reader may think that someone is witched by a picture; in addition the word “witchcraft” is organized into  two words: witch (strega) and craft (abilità), that means “sortilegio”.
The song is organized into two stanzas: in the first one a man fixes his eyes on his loved one and a woman is crying. He is afraid by the woman's look and the picture of himself he can see in her eyes. In the second stanza he runs away. He isn't afraid of  being wounded by his image in her look.

But finallys he sees another image : the one of when they were together and this will help her to go on.
“Picture” is the key-word, because it connects the man and the woman and each time, that this word is used, the speaker refers to different types of pictures.

The verb “to burn” in the first stanza underlines the woman's passion, but the verb “to poure” underlines her grief. The man does not reveal his sensation so openly.
The message of the song expresses the remorse of the man, because he has left the woman, becausae he feels inferior.
