I agree with the first consideration: the two characters belong to different cultures and, in a certen sense, to different words. The contact between the two cultures  does not make a positive resolt  at all:  sometimes they quarrel about their opinion because they have a different point of view.

Theyr different religion offer different kind of life but , in this case , Anna should have understand the inappropriate roul of her religion in the Siamese contest.

I agree with the second consideration: the two cultures are only presented as different way of living  based on a different geoghraphical colllocation (Britain is in the western side of the word while Siam is in the Eastern one).

The film makes understand even if the cultures are different the problem are same: impossible love, treachery, parent's love ( king Mongkut cries when his daughter died even if he has got 68 children; Anna makes her son the point of reference of her life).

1) The speacking voice in the film is the first Mongkut's child, but we understand this only at the end of the film.

2) The register makes this choice because only the point of view of a child could offer this story-line: a child makes in  comparison the two cultures finding the common points while an adult finds the differences and the incompatibility of the two cultures.

3) The most three important themes are: conflicts between the cultures, love and grieving. Conflict is film's  topic  but the story-line makes understand how conflict could be resolved because in each culture there are the same problems because we are first of all men and woman and secondly English, Siames and a like.

Love and grieving are the same in each person: everybody loves, everybody cries, everybody laughs and this does  not dipend by the culture we belong.

4) The king lets  the two lovers die because he wants to appear an authoriatative men, he wants to appaer a strickt king, a king that can's loose his face but i think he's only worried about the imminent danger.

5) All film's themes are connected  by the feelings which are common in each person and so in each situation and danger.

6) Anna has also got a positive roule  because she offers another point of view in each situation and this is positive because it's a symble of progress.

She offers the point of view of the English mentality a mentality that even king Mongkut perceives as superior.
