Does he use reported speech or direct speech and why?

Joyce uses the direct speech because he wants to stay outside the story, thus the reader should have a personal consideration of the story. He also uses the free indirect style in order to represent Gabriel's thoughts

The leitmotiv of the story is death: how is it expressed?

During the story a lot of characters reflect on the theme of death. As a matter of fact Gretta speaks of Michael Furey's death, Gabriel reflects on the importance of the death in our life and Mr. Conroy reflects on the banality of his life and the death .

The last paragraph of the short story is an example of epiphany. Which stylistic elements concur to convey Gabriel's revelation?

The epiphany is conveyed by some elements: the opposition of the snow to the hot air and the particular description of the room.
