Robyn Penrose's characterization
Starting from the name, it is possible to obtain some informations: Robin reminds to Robin Hood, the hero who stole from rich to help poor people, while her surname, Penrose, is connected with her job, indeed she is a lecturer.
First of all, the writer informs the reader that Robyn is very different from Vic Wilcox, who was presented before; in this way he wants to build up a characterization putting them in contrast.
David Lodge goes on giving informations about her way of thinking: she has an original idea of literature and society, that is to say, she considers the classic novel as an expression of capitalism.
The writer also presents her attitude and social species comparing her with Vic Wilcox : she seems to be an ordinary and normal person like any other, but she belongs to a low social group expecially if she is compared to Mr Vix.
