This article was written by Umberto Galimberti and it deals with James Hillman's new vision about psychoanalysis. James Hillman was a famous psychoanalyst who created a different approach to the traditional psychoanalysis (Freud's one and Hillman's teacher Jung one). He suggested a different approach in patient analysis: he thought that to go back to archetypes (very primitive origine of modern culture) was the best thing for them. He did this because people are not aware of what think and they are shaped by all that they have listened, did... bifore. When people approach something alter, it is refused because of previous experiences.
The key words of the article and of Mr Hillman's works are archetype and soul. Archetypes are the deepest models of the way our psyche works like the roots of the soul which govern the perspective from which we can see the world. The soul is not considered in a religious way, but it is the place where person's silent dialogue takes place.
James Hillman was convinced that nowadays psychological suffering is rooted in the society and it causes man's feelings of uneasiness. Further more, every man is connected to the others, so if one is not good, all the society feels this uneasiness.
Jung connected our personality to our sexual istincts. Society influences our perception of the world. Hillman thought that people is not animated by anything now. The relationship with the others is based on the economic interest. James Hillman wanted man thinks with the heart like Greeks: this means do not separate feelings and emotions from the thought. In modern society there are not beauty and sensibility.
