The play is a kind  of text written to be performed. Dramas is usually performed in the theaters .

Theaters as building to host plays were built during the renaissance.

At the beginning drama was performed into the churches and it was about religious topic; a further step was when performances moved out of the church.

This happened more or less in 13th century, when religious and dramatic play were performed during the festivals and the guilds represented the most relevant events of the Bible (mystery plays) on open stages.

In later times also morality plays , performed by travelling companies, developed.

They represented moral teachings and main characters were often vices and virtues.

Gradually this plays were performed in commonrooms  and in nobles’ houses.

One of the distinctive features of a play are the stage directives which tell the director how to perform the play.

Drama has got some tools to stir emotions than the poetry: the scenery, lights….

A playwright can also use different forms of speech  to stir different emotions(the monologue, the soliloquy…).

The storyline instead creates the way of telling the events( and this also stir emotions).
