Plays are texts that conceived to be performed.
What is drama?
Drama is a play for acting on stage with high emotional content.
Drama is a literary genre written to be performed and it includes plays, tragedies, comedies and farces.
What is special about drama?
Drama is special because the characters, when they act, involve the audience within the representation. Drama creates interactions with the audience.
What has drama in common with poetry? Or with fiction?
They stir emotions.

The language used by the different characters creates an effect, an emotion.
Playwright can use dialogue is a conversation between two or more characters; monologue os a speech made by a character to others who do not reply; soliloquy is a speech made by a character when alone on the stage; aside is a comment made by a character for the audience only.
Structure
We can have traditional plays, generally it is organized into acts, which are organized into scenes, it is a tool the writer uses when the time of the performance is the same of the time of the plot.
One of the features of the drama is the stage directions which are information given by the playwright.
Stage directions tell the director how to perform a play.
