Robyn's opinion about literature
In the part dedicated to Robyn's charecterization there is a paragrath in which the narrator explains Robyn's ideas about novel, character, the self and capitalism and he priceses with a comment that her ideas come from the writers she read.
Robyn does not believe in the concept of the "self",which was at the base of capitalism and the classic novel, beacause it implies a unique idenity and an awareness of what you do and what you are. Indeed, there is not a defined identity and there is not a truth and a center either. When a human being faces a problem he reacts in many different ways: there is not only a good or a bad path as in manicheaism. In consequence the concept of a self-made man able to do everything falls too. Therefore, it is possible to outline a profile but it is not possible to cataloge it.
According to Robyn, a text can not be created from nothing but it is created by an union of informations taken from other texts. This concept, called intertextuality, implies there is not an author, a creator whose work is not linked with others and indipendent.
With the presentation of Robyn's ideas about literature, the writer wants to express his concept of Postmodernism and to show how the world vision is changed from the birth of capitalism.
