Textuality » 3A Interacting
Lesson
Different
forms of arts, like literature, painting, sculpture and music use different
ingredients and tools (ex: colours for painting and marble for sculpture).
Whenever poets
write, they must follow a strict disciplined technique,
so their language is charged with a lot of meaning, and that is why poetry arouses
and steers several emotions.
Literary products
sends lots of meanings, and most of these meanings can be corrects, because the
readers provides a personal interpretation of the text (in order to advance an
interpretation, we must be able to advance one which is supported by textual
references). Everyone can make his/ her own idea of the text.
Literary
genres are: drama, painting and poetry;
Literary
forms are: ballade, novel, haiku...
What is
Literature?
"Literature
is a term used to describe written or spoken material. Broadly speaking,
"literature" is used to describe anything from creative writing to
more technical or scientific works, but the term is most commonly used to refer
to works of the creative imagination, including works of poetry, drama,
fiction, and nonfiction." That's what we found if we search in Internet the
word "Literature". But that definition doesn't really explain what literature
is. The literature isn't a matter form. What makes a text a literary text is transmitting
emotions. Every text, from a classic like the "Divina Commedia" to a stupid
song of "Gem Boy", if makes you feel some emotions, if it makes you think about
something (often about yourself, the destiny, the future, the justice or other "Great
Issues" of the life) , can be considered literature. At this point, I must
explain more clearly the difference between a literary text and a classic. The
literature is made by every text which makes you feel something, books, poems,
fairy tales, songs, advertisements (also if I find difficult to think about an
advertisement that makes you feel and makes you think about something), ... A classic is, for every kind of literary
text, a "collection" of the best literary text of their kind (ex: for the
poems, a classic is the "Divina Commedia"; for the theatre, a classic is "Richard
III"; for the songs, a classic is one of Mozart's compositions, ... How can a
literary text makes us feel emotions? How can we make other people feel our
emotions? First: we can't use the everyday language: we must change some words,
some phrases, to others, with metaphors, or maybe other textual features, to
better explain the situation we want to describe. Second: try to draw attention
to the text, using, for example, a strange title with which people can be
attracted, maybe enigmatic, something like: "The Ổken". With
this, you focus the attention to the text, and people can "fall in the trap"
without understand the topic of the text.
