KEY POINTS ON THE TEXT POSTMODERNISM

 

-it is a reaction against that confidence in reason

-there is no possibility to know really something, because the reason will never lead to truth

- reason  is bound by the subjectivity of the individual

 

-there isn't a god, someone infinite -> "God is dead"

 

-language take precedence over things, the virtual world (created by language) replaces the real world

 

- it no longer believes in a linear sequence of story

 

-there is no one view to reality: pluralism

 

NOTES ON POSTMODERNISM

 

Post modernism develops after the II World War it is a literature movement. it refuses traditions and the idea of authority, truth, that during the Modern period have been developed.

Freud, Hume, Einstein puts into questions aspects of life that have been considering verity until their studies: like relativity.

All the values on which the man based his life showed his fragility. Men discovered the weakness, thanks at the event of technology and machines->capitalism

Nowadays technology speeds up globalization process. Culture became more easy to access.

We read two postmodern text, The Hours by Michael Cunningham, and an extract by David Laudge.

There are three different chronological systems. Mr  Cunningham did not adopted  a linear sequences of events because Postmodern novel couldn't be consider with sequences time.

-sono entrati in crisi tutti I principi dell esistenza di Dio. Non si sapeva più a chi credere

- l avvento della tecnologia anche se porta a un grande cambiamento comunque non aiuta l uomo che si sente perso

- nuova visione dello spazio e del tempo in seguito alla teoria di Einstein in cui spazio e tempo no possono esser più separati ma cambia a seconda della visione dell' 'osservatore

- l' uomo si sente spaesato e cerca u senso nella ricerca formale

- non crede più nel personaggio come  post moderni perché non crede nell'essenza di un anima che possa bastare da sola.

Il postmodernismo si pone, quindi, in antitesi rispetto al modernismo poiché mentre il modernismo si pone come obiettivo quello di anticipare gli sviluppi futuri, il postmodernismo contesta il fatto che la storia abbia una linea di sviluppo individuabile.

Inoltre, mentre il modernismo si pone in un atteggiamento conflittuale nei confronti del passato per proporre delle soluzioni più avanzate, il postmodernismo ricombina gli elementi ripresi dal passato.

Infine, il modernismo è sempre contro l’esistente, mentre il postmodernismo implica un’accettazione dell’esistente.
