Globalization was sped up by technologies, which became a part of it. Helped by globalization and technology, culture became more easy to access.
In the novel The Hours by Michael Cunningham there are traces of Modernism and Post Modernism. As for Post Modernism there is not a linear sequence of events. The novel is structured around three female characters who live in different times and places. The three women are connected with Virginia Woolf's novel Mrs Dalloway: in the novel by Mr Cunningham V. Woolf is writing her novel (1920), L. Brown is reading the novel (1950) and C. Vaughan identifies herself in Mrs Dalloway's character (2000). Mr Cunningham with this choice to have not a chronological time wants communicate how literature influences people's life in different times and situations.
In the 19th century in the novel there is a central character with strong values, who is consider an example to follow by the reader. In that time the character's story were described in chronological and linear way.
In the 20th century the structure of novel changed because was modified the world's vision. There was the abolition of metaphysical' s vision, the regress of hope in capitalism's system, the new relativity theory from A. Einstein which discuss the old vision of space and time. The man's values had a crisis and the answer of Modernists was to search new principles to equilibrate the life. The modernists believed there was a centre and a truth behind the fragmentation of world. The quest of Modernists is the in cultural background, they experimented new ways to create and built art.
The Post Modernists differ to Modernists because they don't believe in a unique truth and have renounce the quest of principle.
