20th /09/11 Lesson
First but not second= molto importante
To update=aggiornare
In the previous lesson we dealt with the position of the reader in the studying of literary texts.
To hand in: give somebody something
Storyline: fatti e avvenimenti
Plot: categoria semiotica in cui si fa riferimento a come i fatti vengono espressi
Stylistic choices are important because they create effects in the reader. So, the reader may identify with words or may take distance from these.
Argumentative text: proposes a thesis on something, a range of ideas. Requires for the writer the production of argumentations that support his/her ideas.
Argumentation: thought, concept that I develop following a logical thread. It can also be made by a comparison, by an association. It follows that( as a result...; as a consequence...) the better you organise the logical development of your idea, the better you can convince the reader of your point of view. In order to do this(to this aim, in view of this objective) you have to collect intelligent data, relevant information, significant figures and also pay attention utmost to the use of language. So I need connectors and linkers like coming out..., in addition..., what's more..., besides..., differently..., in opposition to..., vice versa..., on one hand...on the other one..., indeed..., to tell the truth..., in short..., summing up..., however..., anyway....
The argumentations should follow or be develop into paragraphs. Each paragraph should play a function which should connect somehow to the previous or to the coming one.
To communicate to: comunicare a
To convey the idea: trasmettere l'idea
To highlight: evidenziare
To underline: sottolineare
To express: esprimere
To hint at: alludere
To refer to: riferire a
To tell about: dire su
To draw the reader attention: richiamare l'attenzione del lettore
