The extract is taken from Post modern novel Nice work by David Ladge. The function of the extract is the introduction of a new character: Robyn.

The characterization is a pretest for the narrator (a first person omniscient) to express all the most relevant principals of Postmodernism thought.

-the character is introduce in contrast and opposition to Vict Wilcox(a very different character) with the aim to create curiosity about Robyn's character

-the narrator informs the reader that Robyn does not believe in the concepts of character

-the narrator presents the character through the thought and the vision of the world

-the way she breaks her discourse in language

-the name, it isn't a female name and it carries a symbolic association with it

- the surname Penrose implies symbolize with the pen: literature, science…

-her occupation which sets in the world of university

-Robyn's idea about the novel: the idea of the character.

 

 

Robyn philosophy is a semiotic one.

L'identità è data da ciò che diciamo e presentiamo le nostre idee e parliamo.

Presenta l'idea di identità nel postmoderno. Visione multipla: ogni testo ha tante componenti che derivano da altri testi, non c'è un testo originale. Vi sono identità multiple incorporate nel romanzo, che derivano dalle emozione che l'autore ha vissuto.
