THE CELTS
The Celts were not the first inhabitants of Ireland.
From 6000 BC to the 2000 BC three waves of people spread to Ireland.
The first population were hunters and fishermen. The second were farmers. They cultivated grain and kept animals like sheeps and pigs. The last ones were metalworkers looking for gold and copper.
The Celts settled in Ireland a century before Christ. They moved from middle Europe. The first Celtic invasion was from the continent t othe west of the country, the last from Britain to North-East Ireland. The social organization was cultural,social and legal.
They were warriors. Wars in Ireland were speedy and frequent.
Christianity influenced a lot celtic culture. The union of celtic culture and christianity made a conservative society. This feature remained until the 17 century.
