Textuality » 4A Interacting
When a student analyses a text he should never express personal opinions.
It follows that he must use the impersonal form (2nd-3rd person) to write a textual analysis or an argumentative text about a work of art.
The first analysis (after reading) is the denotative oneand it is about the analysis of content.
The second step implies the connotative one which deals with word choice, order and the purpose of the poet's decision.
Stylistic choices are important because they create emotions and effects like happiness, sadness or distance.
When you write an argumentative text to analyze a text you require argumentation to reinforce the thesis following a logical thread to develop your argumentation in a clear and fluent way.
Argumentations can be made by contrast or association and are essential to explain ideas and convince the reader of one's idea, thesis or conviction.
So you must collect intelligent data, significant figures and also control the use of language.
To this aim you should use linkers like the ones below:
EX. Coming now to…
In addicion…
Besides…
Differently from…
In opposition to…
Vice versa...
Indeed…
In short…
However…
Etc.
And verbs like:
to communicate to...
to express...
to refer to...
In addition, argumentation should be arranged into paragraphs each one with a specific function and connected with the previous and the coming one.
