1 Mrs. Dalloway is going to buy the flowers for a party.
2 She feels amusement and fear. The two mood are caused by the squeaking of hinges which recall her youth: when she was eighteen.
3 In the extracttwo time dimensions are presented: the present, when Mrs Dalloway is going to buy the flowers; and the past, evoked by the squeaking of hinges, that make Mrs Dalloway remembers Peter Walsh's comments.
4 In my opinion Peter Walsh is a man who has signed Clarissa's life (a boyfriend? a lover because she still remembers him even if she is fifty years old. Clarissa doesn't say a lot about Peter but the important info is that in her mind some expressions of his are still vivid as the one about vegetables.
5 Scrope Purvins thinks she is a charming woman, light, vivacious, with more white hairs since her illness. He/She compares Clarissa to a "jay, blue-green". The two colours reflect Scrope Purvins's thoughts: green is a symbol of hope and blue is a symbol of depth.
6 Walking through the streets in Westminster, Clarissa thinks about the feeling of suspension she perceived when the Big Bang strikes the hours; after the rumble her thoughts are about life and how all sort of people love it.
Interpretation
2 "squeak of hinges" onomamatopeia- "like the flap of a wave; the kiss of a wave" imagery using similes
3 Clarissa's character is created presenting first of all her social status and surname (Mrs. Dalloway) and the action she is going to do in the day at the start of novel. After that she is described through her thoughts when she opens the window and hears the squeak of hinges, which bring the reader into the past of Clarissa ( the technique of the interior monologue is useful to step into Clarissa's mind).
She is also characterized by her feelings while walking through the streets in Westminster and attends Big Bang bloom.
