August 15th
August 15th is an Italian holiday named "Ferragosto". People celebrate by going to the beach and having big meals. Young people like high school and university students go out dancing or in bars and stay the night. This day is celebrated by the church too because it's the Virgin Mary's Assumption Day.
My friends and I thought a lot about what to do this day because we wanted to have fun. We didn't have much choice and we couldn't go far since we can't drive. All paths seemed to lead us to Grado, a popular city in the middle of a lagoon full of tourists during the summer. All our friends would have gone there because there are some bars in front of the sea where people go often to dance and drink. The good thing about this option was that we would have been able to come back home at night with a bus.
So we decided to go there and we did. We took a bus before dinner and when we arrived there we found some other friends of ours. We went to a paninoteca, which is a place where you can Italian sandwiches, and had dinner there. After that we went walking along the seaside and we saw the sunset and took some pictures on the rocks. When we arrived in the place we put all our bags together in the middle of the beach. We had brought with us a towel, a sweater, an icebox with some drinks and our swimsuits in case we would have wanted to swim.
Afterwards we went towards the bars where all the people were dancing or drinking. We saw many familiar faces. We went dancing and we forgot the bus so when it all finished and we figured out we had lost the bus we lost our mind. We didn't know what to do. We saw that in the beach there were many bonfires and groups of people so we put our towels in a circle and did our bonfire too. There were many of us so we weren't scared to stay the night at the end. I think we all were worried about what our parents would have said.
The night was cold and we were freezing. We couldn't sleep so we starting telling stories to make the time pass quickly. When the sun raised we took our things and went in search for a cafeteria to have breakfast because we were all starving. After the breakfast we went to the bus station and took a bus back home. We had lots of fun that day but the day after was about to be really less funny since we had to deal with our parents reaction.
