Textuality » 4A Interacting
During the last lesson teacher explained us what is important to write a textual analysis.
The first step is to have the purpose clear in mind because it is the point of departure for the analysis.
In a textual analysis the purpose may be to explain your interlocutor the poem’s message. To do it, your interlocutor has to understand the content and the linguistic choices. Then, he/she has to understand how the speaking voice makes the message and finally he/she has to recognized grammar and syntax, indeed analysis is about the way information has been given. It is important to say that every text has a message, if they haven’t it you will not call them “text”.
Another very important step is to recognize your interlocutor. The language you have to use depends on your interlocutor. It’s obvious that when you speak to a child the language is different from the one used to speak to an adult. But there are also other steps to make a good analysis: you have to read carefully in order to discover the overall meanings, to go in depth into unknown words to reach a better level of comprehension, to read the text again (to be sure to have understood the denotation) and finally you have to discover the content. At the end you have to make connotation to explain what are the connection between words and the poem’s meaning. To conclude your analysis you may give an interpretation or a personal conclusion and comment.
