REFLECTION ON LITERATURE AND LANGUAGE

The use of language in a literary text is different from the one of non-literary texts: it's rather removed  from everyday language.

Besides, literary words transform reality in the etymological sense.

  • - Trans-form à a form which moves
  • - Con-form à to adapt to a form

Literature is not necessarily connected to  the author's life, otherwise it would be rather a work of biography. A literary text has a life of its  own. A classic text is defined classic because it represents  something new to every new generation and not because it is old and traditional.

Literature is how art  both transforms the world and people's vision of the world. In ancient times any dictatorship persecuted artist because they wanted everybody to conform but unfortunately for them art distinguishes itself from what is conventionally accepted  and so dictators persecuted artists.

Culture is a crossroad of codes and joins all  people.

Advertising exploits literary devices to promote the sale of goods because literary language creates emotions and energy à catch-phrases are indeed used in adverts because they want to draw people's attention on their products.
