Learning Paths » 5A Interacting
After reading the present texts I noticed that they have a common point. Both of them are about parents' influence on adolescent's decisions.
As Claudia Sfilli states in her article, young people imitate adults and especially their parents, as they come everyday into contact. The reason is that they cannot find the courage of being different and it is comprehensible because adolescents think that adults behave in the best way, thanks to their experience.
"Eveline", the main character of one of James Joyce's short story taken from "Dubliners", is an example of an adolescent influenced by her background and her father. She is strongly binds to him and even if he mistreats her, she cannot find the courage to leave him and to change herself. Therefore she prefers to be conditioned by her father, rather than venture into something different, new that she does not know. The change frightens everybody, especially young people, who have not a great fund of experience.
