1.Talk about what is meant by Modernist Fiction
Modernist fiction focuses on the SUBJECTIVITY, reached by the reader thanking the narrative techniques used by the writer. An example could be " Mrs Dalloway", whose thought, emotions and feelings become the most important elements of the narration and can be perceived by the reader because they are expressed using a free indirect style and a third person omniscient and eclipsed. The reader results free of making his own personal idea about what he reads. On the contrary in the traditional novel the writer focuses his attention to the events, to the plot, to the situations and does not let his reader free because he filters his work.
2.What is the eclipse of the narrator?
The eclipse of the narration consist on hiding him. You cannot see him evidently as in the traditional novel. You can only perceive his presence by some textual clus.
3.How is the style used by the Modernist novel called?
It is called free indirect style. Using it the narrator report what characters say, think, sense ,feel etc.
4.What is the concept of time in the Modernist novel?
Focusing on the inner side the narrator adopts a simultaneous time. It is simultaneous because it allows the contemporary presence in the character's min of the three time dimensions ( past, present and future).
